Steam & Epic Graphics and Performance Troubleshooting

Modified on Tue, 24 Sep at 4:23 PM

Return to Moria has been tested on many hardware configurations and we have made every attempt to support as many types of Windows-based PC computers as possible. However if you are experiencing issues with graphics, or see areas of poor performance, there are some steps you can take in-game to make adjustments that may make your experience more enjoyable!

Common PC Maintenance

Before you change anything in-game, it is always good to confirm that your drivers are current. Here are some common hardware types and where to find the latest manufacturer-approved drivers:

We also advise you to troubleshoot 3rd party software, as many are not supported by Return to Moria and could cause conflicts in certain cases

  • Close other running applications to free up memory and processor power

  • Disable software that creates overlays, such as Discord, Steam, or streaming software

Return to Moria Graphics Settings

In-game, Return to Moria features a set of options you can adjust to impact performance.

  • Brightness: Adjust the gamma levels to suit your desired brightness levels

  • Fullscreen/Windowed/Windowed Fullscreen: Try to use Fullscreen. If you Alt+Tab/Change windows, then Windowed will help prevent fps drops/instability.  We recommend trying each and often Windowed Fullscreen can look identical but perform better when you're having trouble with framerate or lagging.

  • Resolution: The game supports many possible resolutions and monitor sizes from standard 4:3 to widescreen. We recommended you match the default resolution for your monitor if it is not automatically chosen

  • Frame Rate Limit: In some cases it may help to lock your frame rate at 30 or 60 FPS.  Try this if you are seeing stuttering or frame rate drops at certain times in the game.

  • VSync: - this synchronizes your game framerate with your monitor's refresh rate to prevent screen tearing. Enable if you see excessive screen tearing.

  • Graphic Quality - Controls the overall quality of graphics including textures and lighting.

    • Low / Medium / High / Epic

    •  Epic will have the highest quality textures and prioritizes quality, while Low will have the lowest texture and lighting features to prioritize performance.

  • NVidia DLSS: For hardware that supports DLSS, enable this to take advantage of your GPU's ability to deliver better image quality.

    • Select Quality if you want a minimal loss of image quality.

    • Select Performance to improve framerate.

  • AMD FSR: FSR is a graphics setting that can work with almost any video card (DLSS must be OFF for this to be usable). It uses upscaling technology to improve frame rate while keeping the improving the image quality. It does this by rendering the game at a lower resolution then filling in the details.

    • Quality / Balanced / Performance / Ultra Performance

    • Quality will have the best texture and visual levels and prioritize graphic quality, while Ultra Performance will display
