We know that sometimes players may have connectivity issues and we’d like to help!
Basic Troubleshooting:
First, here are some basic steps that you should try to ensure that your PlayStation is logged in properly to the Internet, and recognized by PlayStation Network.
Check that your PlayStation is logged into the internet and updated to the latest version of PlayStation software. https://www.playstation.com/en-us/support/hardware/ps5/system-software/?smcid=web:repairs:en-us:troubleshooting:article-url#update
If you are encountering errors, you may need to update your software or reinstall the software on your PlayStation. Below you can find additional links to PlayStation support and troubleshooting guides.
Note: Return to Moria will be playable offline if you are not connected to the Internet and do not have an online PlayStation login, but you will not be able to host or join any games. |
Step 1: Select the “Settings” button from the Home Screen.
Step 2: Select “Network”
Step 3: Select “Test Internet Connection”
Step 4:When the “Test Internet Connection” dialogue pops up, select the “Start Test” button
Step 5: Observe Results.
Next Steps:
If your connection test shows “Successful” and your NAT type is 1 or 2, most players can successfully host or join online games. If it is NAT Type 3, read below for more info.
NAT types:
Type 1: "open" NAT is the most compatible with PlayStation networking and peer-to-peer games such as Return to Moria. Players with NAT Type 1 also make for the best hosts for online.
Type 2: "moderate" NAT is common for may individuals with an ISP and router, and may need additional help to configure ports that are open for peer-to-peer connections.
Type 3: "strict" NAT is not always compatible with PlayStation Networking and may be unable to play in a peer-to-peer game of Return to Moria. See below for more helpful links from Sony.
If you see any errors or there are connection issues with Internet or PlayStation Network sign-in, or are still encountering problems with Return to Moria, please feel free to open a ticket with us here: https://northbeachgames.freshdesk.com/support/tickets/new.

PlayStation Troubleshooting - PS5 Dec 2023:
The following link includes some specific information that we have found can help, and have confirmed that some players are able to overcome errors with networking and Online gameplay. These changes are at your discretion and we cannot verify that it will help for all players.

Port Forwarding:
Return to Moria for PS5 uses Sony Networking to allow players to find each other on a PS5 and connect to play Online. Some users have found that opening up ports on a router can resolve some networking issues. In basic terms, this means you are telling your router that it is OK to allow communication to happen through certain "ports" - for a specific device inside of your network. By setting these ports for your PS5, you may improve your ability to connect to another player who is hosting, or host your own games.
For more information on how this works for your personal network connection, we encourage you to contact your ISP and read carefully before making any changes to your system. |
Ports:
TCP: 80, 443, 3478, 3479, 3480
UDP: 3478, 3479, 8571, 49152~65535
As there are many different ISP's and router hardware, accessing these features means working within your home network and you may want to seek help from your provider or look for their guides online. Some routers can be accessed via a computer browser, while others may provide an app that helps you to do this. Normally you can find this information under a "Port Forwarding" section of your router's administrative tools. This is quite technical so if you aren't able to do this, just let us know in a ticket and we'll be glad to help further.
Manual DNS Settings:
As seen in the article above, some players have found that changing their DNS server to a "free" solution can have a positive effect PlayStation 5 networking.
Select “Settings” and choose “Set up Internet connection/Network” In the “Advanced settings” screen, set the “DNS settings” to “Manual.” Enter the details for the primary DNS and secondary DNS servers, then select “OK” in the lower-left corner of the screen to confirm the changes. Wait for the PS5 to test the connection.
There are many public DNS solutions such as this and you should confirm before trying these that such a solution will be available in your region. |
We have had reports of players using the Google DNS servers below with some success, but there are numerous solutions in addition to this you may wish to try, and we cannot confirm this will work for all users.
A general approach:
Go to your router's administration page
Go in to your advanced settings
Note down your DNS server addresses for reference
Replace them with new DNS server addresses
Primary DNS: 8.8.8.8
Secondary DNS: 8.8.4.4
Additional Troubleshooting:
Some network connections and setup steps may require additional support from PlayStation. This includes devices with NAT 3 results, these players may not be able to connect properly to Online games. You may want to check out the support links as follows:
