How to find Saved files on Steamdeck

The RTM team is happy to announce that we've been certified as "Playable" on Steamdeck, and working to make sure that you the loyal Steamdeck player can get what you need done - even if its a bit more technical!  So check out this fun guide to finding those save files, in case you wanted to move to a PC version of the game for example!

You may be used to looking in Desktop mode to find files, but some can be tricky to locate. Because our game is working with Proton you have to go a few layers deeper.

Like we describe in our guide to save files https://northbeachgames.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/154000191592-how-to-move-files-from-epic-to-steam, we have both character and world saves.

Commonly people ask how to move the MW_ save file from the steam deck to another PC, and it should be as simple as copying the right file.

Here's some step by step.

  1. The best way to confirm you have the latest MW is to play the world you want for a few minutes on steamdeck, save the game normally (exit to the main menu) and then close the app properly.
  2. Access your files from Desktop Mode, and open the folder viewer. You may need to also allow it to Show Hidden Files (the .local folder and others may be hidden).
  3. Goto the folder which should be found in Home > .local > share > Steam > Steamapps > compatdata > 2933130 > pfx > drive_C > users > steamuser > AppData > Local > Moria > Saved > SaveGamesSteam
    • (Home\.local\share\Steam\steamapps\compatdata\2933130\pfx\drive_c\users\steamuser\AppData\Local\Moria\Saved\SaveGamesSteam
  4. Look for the MW_ that is the most recently modified. It will have a name like "MW_EA069E3C4DC3E03AF771A08405BAE9B6.sav" - you don't need any .bak files as those are just older copies of the world - but they do share the same filename, and each world + its backup will share the same long name.
  5. Copy the file in a way that allows you to it on the PC - such as emailing to yourself or using a cloud storage folder. You may find it easier to plug in a USB keyboard and mouse, or you can use the Steamdeck controller.
  6. On the PC, open your saved folder at C:\Users\[your pc name]\AppData\Local\Moria\Saved\SaveGamesSteam
  7. Copy the file directly over to here
